The International Ecumenical Peace Convocation (IEPC), which was held from 17-25 May 2011 in Kingston (Jamaica) drew attention to the theme of protection of creation as part of a broader agenda - pursuing of peace. The theme 'Peace with the Earth' was part of the agenda of the Convocation together with 'Peace among the Peoples', 'Peace in the Community' and 'Peace in the Marketplace.'
The case of the Pacific Islands of Tuvalu was presented as one of the examples of the upcoming consequences of climate change.
More and more of the fragile ecosystem surrounding Tuvalu falls victim to warming waters and rising sea levels. Reducing and renewing God’s creation is no longer a luxury but an urgent task if places such as Tuvalu are to survive.
