26 April will be the 20th anniversary of the disaster in Chernobyl. Around Europe, people will remember the world's worst non-military nuclear catastrophe.
This will be also an occasion for involvement of churches across the continent. The church has a responsibility for the pastoral care of victims and their families, still suffering from ill-health or reawakened grief. However, it is also an occasion for the church to ask questions about the use of the nuclear power, and also to the wider relationship between human beings and the natural world.
In many parts of Europe churches will organise special services, say prayers, or collect money for helping the victims of the catastrophe. ECEN invites you to join with them. On this page some resources are provided to help you take part in these initiatives on Sunday 23 April 2006.
