The ecological section of the Czech Christian Academy was established in 1997. The aims are as follows:

  1. To study the theology of creation and Christian ethics with particular reference to the position of humankind in nature - God’s creation.

  2. To develop an awareness of responsibility for God’s creation in churches, congregations and other Christian communities at different levels.

  3. To contribute to seeking ways to an environmentally-friendly lifestyle.

  4. To deepen ecumenical awareness and relations with emphasis on humankind’s role in creation regardless of different church membership.

  5. To convene meetings of concerned people and to help them to get to know each other better and to exchange views and experience.

The ecological section organizes evening discussions on different themes in the seat of CCA. An all-day meeting, focused on a chosen theme, takes place here once a year. This maintains contact between members and friends of the section living outside Prague and brings a valuable opportunity for discussion.

In February 2002, a panel-discussion on the future of the energy industry was organised, in addition to regular section meetings.

The members of the ecological section participate in issuing the Universum-revue and publish some ecologically oriented articles in either Christian or secular magazines and newspapers. They prepare lectures dealing with Christian attitude to the environment.

Since 2002, the ecological section has been supporting the celebration of Creation Days in various church communities and groups, especially among youth.

The ecological section cooperates with the Section of science and with the Section for political thought and economy.
