Season of Creation 2025 in Hungary

In 2025, the Season of Creation will be observed worldwide from September 1 to October 4, uniting Christians in prayer, reflection, and action for God’s creation. In Hungary, churches and communities are invited to join under the global theme “Peace with Creation.”

The guiding biblical text is Isaiah 32:14–18, which contrasts desolation with the promise that justice will bring peace and flourishing. The symbol is the Garden of Peace, represented by the dove carrying an olive branch, recalling Noah’s story as a sign of hope and renewal.

The Hungarian guide (64 pages) offers diverse resources:

  • Meditations and prayers for personal and group use, rooted in Scripture.
  • Art reflections, to engage imagination and theology.
  • Children’s materials, making creation care accessible to younger generations.
  • Concrete actions, translating faith into ecological and reconciliatory practices.

The year also marks three anniversaries: the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, affirming faith in God the Creator; the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis’ Canticle of the Sun, celebrating all creation as kin; and the 10th anniversary of Laudato si’, Pope Francis’ call to ecological conversion.

Theologically, the theme emphasizes that peace and justice are inseparable: in Scripture, true peace (shalom) springs from justice (tsedaqah). Applied today, this means ecological peace cannot exist without social and environmental justice—caring for the vulnerable, both human and non-human, and seeking reconciliation in all relationships.

Let us come together in Hungary also, and with the worldwide church, to witness to hope, reconciliation, and justice.
