Energy consumption is closely linked with the way our society and economy is organised. Although energy efficiency in Europe has improved over the last two decades, it is far from sufficient in order to meet necessary energy efficiency targets. One of the critical problems is that current efforts for improving energy use focus mostly on improving the economic and environmental efficiency of production and products, rather than on changing consumption.
However, it is clear that in order to stay below the internationally agreed 2 degree temperature increase it is necessary to take into consideration much more than the expectation of a solution from technological progress. Churches and religious communities can contribute in a significant way to these efforts.
