On November 30, 2020, the committee of the church leadership of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Nordkirche) was constituted to evaluate and continue the climate protection plan. With the Climate Protection Act of the Nordkirche (passed in October 2015), a first climate protection plan, which is valid for six years from 2016 to 2021 inclusive, came into force. Once in every six-year term of office of the regional synod, the issue of climate protection is on the agenda. The next climate protection plan is to be adopted in autumn 2021 and apply for the years 2022 up to and including 2027.
